Why Choose This Air Fry Chicken Strips Recipe?
Extra Crispy Coating
We swapped a flour coating for crushed cornflakes to get the ultimate crunch without deep frying. This simple trick creates a golden, cornflake crusted chicken exterior that delivers a satisfying, loud crunch in every single bite.
Macro-Friendly Comfort Food
If you are tracking your macros, this meal gives you the comfort food combination without deep frying. While classic chicken strips and French fries usually feel like a heavy cheat meal, our version keeps your nutrition on track. The whole plate contains around 64 g of protein per serving.
KFC-Inspired Flavor
We spent time balancing spices to recreate that familiar fast-food taste at home. To match it, we developed a creamy high-protein dipping sauce that captures the vibe of the original, using Greek yogurt as a lighter base.
What You Need for This Recipe

Here you can see the ingredients for these air fryer chicken strips and fries. See the recipe card below for the full list of ingredients with all quantities.
Ingredients Explained
-
Chicken Breast: we cut it into strips ourselves. It’s also the main protein source for this recipe.
-
Greek yogurt: the base of the marinade that keeps the chicken tender and adds extra protein.
-
Milk: we use regular low-fat milk instead of buttermilk, which you’ll often find in fast-food chicken strip recipes. It’s simply more convenient for us since we usually have milk at home and don’t have to buy buttermilk just for this recipe.
-
Pickle juice: adds that familiar fast-food-style flavor to both the marinade and sauce. It also helps tenderize the chicken.
-
Cornflakes: give our chicken strips plenty of crunch and create a crispier coating in the air fryer than we typically get from flour or breadcrumbs.
-
Potatoes: we use fresh potatoes for the French fries and cut them fairly thin so they get nice and crispy in the air fryer.
-
Greek yogurt + mayonnaise: the base of our creamy dipping sauce, with Greek yogurt keeping it higher in protein.
-
Ketchup + mustard: add the classic sweet and tangy flavor to the sauce.
- Seasonings: paprika, garlic, onion, white pepper, and oregano give the chicken its signature KFC-inspired flavor.
Recipe Variations
You can easily customize this air fryer chicken strips and fries recipe to match your own taste.
-
Chicken Breast: can be replaced with chicken tenders, also called tenderloins, which work just as well and save the extra step of cutting the chicken into strips.
-
Fresh Potato Fries: frozen fries are a quicker option when we want to get dinner on the table faster. We recommend choosing fries with a short ingredient list and avoiding unnecessary additives.
-
Cornflakes: work perfectly with store-bought cornflake crumbs if you prefer a more convenient option.
-
Greek Yogurt: can be swapped for Skyr or another low-fat, high-protein yogurt.
- Pickle Juice: easily trades out for vinegar if you don’t have it on hand.
Any changes to the ingredients may affect the macronutrient values. If you modify the recipe, the nutritional values should be recalculated accordingly.
How to Make These Chicken Strips and French Fries

Images 1–4: Marinate the Chicken & Make the Sauce
Slice the chicken breast into even strips. In a large bowl, whisk the Greek yogurt, milk, pickle juice, and seasonings until smooth. Toss the chicken in the marinade until well coated, then refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or overnight if you have the time.
For the high-protein dipping sauce, mix everything until creamy and keep it chilled while you prepare the rest of the meal so the flavors can develop.

Images 5–8: Prepare & Air Fry the Fries
Cut the potatoes into thin fries and soak them in ice water. Drain and dry them completely with paper towels before air frying. Arrange the fries in a single layer, working in batches if needed to avoid overcrowding so they can crisp up properly. Once they are done, season with salt, paprika, and garlic powder.

Images 9–12: Coat & Air Fry the Chicken
Crush the cornflakes and mix them with the seasonings. Let any excess marinade drip off the chicken strips, then press them firmly into the cornflake mixture to coat all sides evenly. Place the coated strips in the air fryer, leaving some space between them. Let them rest for a few minutes before cooking to help the coating stick even better. Air fry until golden, crispy, and cooked through.
While the chicken rests after cooking, return the fries to the air fryer for a few minutes to crisp them up again. Serve the crispy chicken strips and fries with the chilled dipping sauce.
JuicyMacros Recipe Tip
- Make Sure the Chicken Is Fully Thawed: whether you’re using frozen chicken breast from the start or have frozen the chicken strips after marinating, make sure the chicken is completely thawed before coating and air frying. We once used chicken that was still partially frozen, and the extra water made the cornflake coating soggy.
How to Store and Reheat
-
Fridge: let the chicken strips and fries cool completely, then store the chicken, fries, and dipping sauce separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
-
Freezer: marinated raw chicken can be frozen for up to 3 months. Thaw it completely overnight in the fridge before coating and cooking.
-
Reheating: we like reheating the chicken and fries in the air fryer to bring back some of their crispiness.
-
Air Fryer: reheat at 180°C / 350°F for 4–7 minutes.
-
Oven: reheat at 200°C / 400°F for about 8–12 minutes.
- Microwave: we recommend avoiding the microwave, as it makes the cornflake coating and fries soft and takes away their crispiness.
-
Air Fryer: reheat at 180°C / 350°F for 4–7 minutes.

1 tsp Pickle Juice
0.5 tsp Smoked Paprika
0.5 tsp Garlic Powder
0.25 tsp Onion Powder
Pinch of Salt
Pinch of Black Pepper
Directions
- Marinate the Chicken
Slice the chicken breast into even strips. In a large bowl, add the Greek yogurt, milk, pickle juice, salt, paprika, black pepper, white pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until smooth and evenly combined. Add the chicken strips and toss until every piece is well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight. - Make the Sauce
In a small bowl, add the Greek yogurt, mayonnaise, ketchup, yellow mustard, pickle juice, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir until smooth and creamy. Cover and refrigerate while preparing the rest of the recipe to allow the flavors to develop. - Prepare & Cook the Fries
Cut the potatoes into thin fries. Soak them in cold water for about 5 minutes, then drain and pat completely dry. Arrange the fries in a single layer and spray generously with oil, working in batches if needed to avoid overcrowding.
• Air Fry: 200°C / 390°F for 18–22 min, shaking occasionally
Season immediately with salt, paprika, and garlic powder. - Prepare the Cornflake Coating
While the fries cook, crush the cornflakes by hand or in a zip-top bag, keeping some larger flakes for a crispier texture. Mix with the paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, and white pepper in a shallow bowl. - Coat & Air Fry the Chicken
Remove the chicken strips from the marinade and briefly let any excess marinade drip off. Press firmly into the cornflake mixture, making sure they are evenly coated on all sides. Arrange the coated strips in a single layer, leaving some space between each piece. Let them rest for 5–10 minutes to help the coating stick. Then spray the coated chicken generously with oil.
• Air Fry: 200°C / 390°F for 12–15 min, flipping halfway through and spraying again with oil
The chicken is done when the coating is crisp and the internal temperature reaches 75°C / 165°F. - Reheat the Fries & Serve
While the chicken rests, return the cooked fries to the air fryer and heat at 200°C / 390°F for 2–3 minutes to crisp them up again.
Serve the crispy chicken strips with the fries and chilled high-protein dipping sauce.

Recipe FAQs
How do you make cornflake chicken strips crispy in the air fryer?
We’ve found that keeping the air fryer from getting overcrowded and spraying the cornflake coating generously with oil before air frying makes a big difference. Leaving enough space between the chicken strips allows the hot air to circulate properly, while the oil helps the coating turn golden and crispy.
How do I get the cornflakes to stick to the chicken strips?
The Greek yogurt and milk marinade works as a great base for the coating. Let any excess marinade drip off briefly, then press the crushed cornflakes firmly onto the chicken strips with your hands so they stick well on all sides.
